Sailing Report – March 2014

March has been a fairly quiet month for sailing at the MBYBC and there is not a lot to report  on. We did however have our regular club sailing on the 8th and 9th and the 15th and 16th of this month. We have been attracting 10 boats on average and a lot of fun is had and our sailors are learning a lot from the club league. Our sailors are busy preparing for the 4th  and  final regatta of the Southern Charter  Dinghy Grand Slam that is to be held on Easter weekend (18th to 21st of  April). This…

Boating Report – March 2014

The biggest event on the boating front was the arrival and prolonged stay of the red tide which had many a person intrigued. It is well known that the red tide affects our filter feeders the most (i.e., oysters etc.), however, its impact on the eating patterns of fish is less well known. For that reason a number of anglers during this last month subsequently had to make the call: “Do I stay (on land) or do I go (out to sea)”. Those who stayed on land spent their time talking about how good the Mossel Bay fishing was ‘back…

Social Season 2013

Another wonderful year is rushing to it’s end. It has been an eventful year full of life’s little surprises. Some good, some bad. At the MBYBC it has been mostly good. I started running the social section in September and have surrounded myself with a great team of committee members. Without these people I simply cannot run the section. They are so special that They deserve to be named. They are Eddie Creed, Carol Brand, Elaine Danhauser, Helen van Tonder, Judy van Rooyen, Madri van den Berg, Belinda von Schutz, Elsa Huber and last but not least my wife Martina.…

Diving Season 2013

Due to the strong winds that we have experienced over the past month, diving has not been good, as we have experienced very large swells & very poor visibility. Dive Club Meetings were held on Wednesday the 12 June & again on Tuesday the 18 June 2013. The purpose of these meetings was to get alignment of all the groups partaking in the St Blaize Marine Monitoring Forum, where we are in the process of electing a Committee to represent the St Blaize Conservancy contingent, MBYBC, Adventures Edge, Oceans Aware & any other group who wants to be part of…

Boating Season 2013

Hi all our boating members. I still have no good news for you regarding fishing in our area. I have noticed that the sardines are in the bay area but bad news for us is that they are netting them just of the point area this means that not bait fish is getting through to our fishing area. Had some discussions with the commercial guys and it looks bad there side as well. (Red fish all over and they are getting hammered). As far as the two remaining competitions are concerned you will have to help me in deciding what…
