MBYBC Court Case Feedback

  Dear Members. The MBYBC’s request for review was heard in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town on 2 March 2018. The Commodore attended the hearing and came back feeling positive about our case. Our Advocate presented a good case which was, in our opinion,  well received by the judges. The Judges will now consider all information placed before them before handing down their judgement. This will not happen immediately – it can in fact take up to a year.  We will keep you posted on any further developments. In the meantime the MBYBC is the legal tenant…

Main Committee Report 2017

The 2016/2017 season has been one of very mixed emotions. High on everyone’s thoughts is obviously the situation with the lease. This is ongoing and is currently in a legal process so not too much can be said but I will expand a bit later in this report. The club is growing, during this season 89 new members joined the even with the lease cloud hanging over the club. This brings our membership to 617 paid up members. The sporting sections have been very active with provincial, national and world championships taking place from the club as well as regular pool leagues.

The Season 2016/2017

Dear members and friends of the MBYBC, We have come to the end of the “silly season” in Mossel Bay and we have had a chance to look back at the season to see how it has gone. This season has had the cloud of the lease hanging over it but in spite of this we have had an amazing season. The security and member’s access worked very well this year with the introduction of a private security company to monitor the gates, members were treated to a well-controlled club. Bart’s Bash 2016

The Bart’s Bash is an international celebrated fun regatta that was also sailed at the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club for the third year in a row. This fun racing is a great way to introduce new people to sailing. 323 yacht clubs in 48 countries were participating in this event and there were 69 entries from the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club. This race is held in honour of Andrew (Bart) Simpson who died in a tragic accident while practicing for the America cup on board the Artemis AC72. This fund assist young people across the world…

Development Sailor Becomes Assistant Coach

Jumailone Meyer, started sailing three years ago as one of the development sailors. He was a Sea Cadet who in order to be promoted to able seaman took up sailing, a requirement. Jumailone, comes out of a poor community where many of the young people are involved with crime and take drugs. He started sailing on Tuesdays and then he went on to the high-performance class. He has successfully taken part in regattas where he has done well. Coming from a family of six his mother always told him to find something to do to keep himself busy. Sailing has…
