MBYBC Court Case Feedback

Dear Members. The MBYBC’s request for review was heard in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town on 2 March 2018. The Commodore attended the hearing and came back feeling positive about our case. Our Advocate presented a good case which was, in our opinion,  well received by the judges. The Judges will now consider all information placed before them before handing down their judgement. This will not happen immediately – it can in fact take up to a year.  We will keep you posted on any further developments. In the meantime the MBYBC is the legal tenant…

Main Committee Report 2017

The 2016/2017 season has been one of very mixed emotions. High on everyone’s thoughts is obviously the situation with the lease. This is ongoing and is currently in a legal process so not too much can be said but I will expand a bit later in this report. The club is growing, during this season 89 new members joined the even with the lease cloud hanging over the club. This brings our membership to 617 paid up members. The sporting sections have been very active with provincial, national and world championships taking place from the club as well as regular pool leagues.

From the Office:

The Holiday Season is upon us and a very busy time lies ahead for us all. Our patience is going to be sorely tried and tested. The following rules, dates and times must please be adhered to, to allow for efficient running of the Season: Please be friendly and tolerant towards the guards at the gate, remember they are just doing their job and…

Commodores Report September 2015

The opening cruise was held on the 12th of September and was very well attended. The club was open to the public as usual and we received a lot of visitors on the day. Wind and sea conditions kept a lot of the younger less experienced sailors off the water but safety is as always the major consideration. The different sections are fairly active and the onset of summer and the good waeather of late is enticing members to spend time at the club. We will be discussing the upcoming season at the main committee meeting and will be setting…

Opening Cruise – from the crew of „Therese“

13 September 2015, early morning: How will the weather going to be? Do we have the flag dressing handy? Is the yacht neat and tidy? How many others will attend to the sail past? – It is always the same … attending to the opening cruise feels like unwrapping a big birthday present. Maybe not for the grey sea bears anymore, but for newbie’s like us, especially if it is the very first time with our  own keelboat “Therese”. Unfortunately the wind wasn’t on our side. It blew with around 21 knots from SE, and because of we can’t reef…

News from the President

The past 2 years have been times of building foundations for a long term successful club. To build strong foundations we had to break ground that has been there for a long time which we did and now I believe the foundation is laid and at the 2013 AGM of the MBYBC we made some very big decisions on the clubs future. For those members who were not able to attend I will just summarise some of the important decisions made and the motivations for those decisions. The one that is going to have the highest impact on you as…
