MBYBC Court Case Feedback

Dear Members. The MBYBC’s request for review was heard in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town on 2 March 2018. The Commodore attended the hearing and came back feeling positive about our case. Our Advocate presented a good case which was, in our opinion,  well received by the judges. The Judges will now consider all information placed before them before handing down their judgement. This will not happen immediately – it can in fact take up to a year.  We will keep you posted on any further developments. In the meantime the MBYBC is the legal tenant…

Main Committee Report 2017

The 2016/2017 season has been one of very mixed emotions. High on everyone’s thoughts is obviously the situation with the lease. This is ongoing and is currently in a legal process so not too much can be said but I will expand a bit later in this report. The club is growing, during this season 89 new members joined the even with the lease cloud hanging over the club. This brings our membership to 617 paid up members. The sporting sections have been very active with provincial, national and world championships taking place from the club as well as regular pool leagues.

The Season 2016/2017

Dear members and friends of the MBYBC, We have come to the end of the “silly season” in Mossel Bay and we have had a chance to look back at the season to see how it has gone. This season has had the cloud of the lease hanging over it but in spite of this we have had an amazing season. The security and member’s access worked very well this year with the introduction of a private security company to monitor the gates, members were treated to a well-controlled club. The club grounds were kept in really good order by…

Dive Section Report for November 2015

Conditions were once again not marvellous, however from the development side, we started swimming at Santos. This is a bit of a challenge, as it is so different for our pupils compared to swimming in a pool. We will be stopping the lessons from now until the end of the festive season. I attended two Community Partnership meetings re human conflict with sharks. Please see attachment. This is a very positive action by the community. What was agreed by all is that at some stage there will be a shark attack in the Mossel Bay area and that this group…

Diving Section Report for October 2015

Conditions were not very favourable for diving this month. The only action that took place was the continued training on the Development side. I have been doing this since January this year & we have been training twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Hartenbos heated Swimming Pool. We will stop with pool sessions on Wednesday, as it is now getting to the stage where I need to take our students to start learning to swim in the sea. This will start in November; we will train at Santos beach. I have approached my son Geoff, who is…

Diving Section Report for September 2015

The only action that took place was the continued training on the Development side, all of our pupils are doing well and at this stage Rasta can swim approximately 20 meters crawl. He just needs to sort out his breathing and then he will go from strength to strength. Abu who could not swim a stroke in January is now able to swim 14 lengths non- stop & Ricky can easily swim a 100 meters. I am very proud of them all. I have approached my son Geoff, who is a qualified PADI Instructor to carry out the final Scuba…

Dive Section Report for May 2014

Well a few positive things have recently happened with diving. The first is we’ve actually gotten in the water all be it with mixed results but a lot of fun was has and qualifications gained. We have also taken a decision to find some space at the club to put in a compressor and some dive equipment which will be made available to the section members to use and will also be used to generate some revenue for the section by renting equipment out to non members or non section members and charging them for cylinder fills. We will also…

MBYBC Dive Section Report

With the conditions being so crap at the moment some of us went through to the Cape Town Dive Festival 2014 in Simons Town where they had great conditions except for the cold water. However one of us had a dry suit so it was ok.

Diving Season 2013

Due to the strong winds that we have experienced over the past month, diving has not been good, as we have experienced very large swells & very poor visibility. Dive Club Meetings were held on Wednesday the 12 June & again on Tuesday the 18 June 2013. The purpose of these meetings was to get alignment of all the groups partaking in the St Blaize Marine Monitoring Forum, where we are in the process of electing a Committee to represent the St Blaize Conservancy contingent, MBYBC, Adventures Edge, Oceans Aware & any other group who wants to be part of…
