MBYBC Court Case Feedback

Dear Members. The MBYBC’s request for review was heard in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town on 2 March 2018. The Commodore attended the hearing and came back feeling positive about our case. Our Advocate presented a good case which was, in our opinion,  well received by the judges. The Judges will now consider all information placed before them before handing down their judgement. This will not happen immediately – it can in fact take up to a year.  We will keep you posted on any further developments. In the meantime the MBYBC is the legal tenant…

Main Committee Report 2017

The 2016/2017 season has been one of very mixed emotions. High on everyone’s thoughts is obviously the situation with the lease. This is ongoing and is currently in a legal process so not too much can be said but I will expand a bit later in this report. The club is growing, during this season 89 new members joined the even with the lease cloud hanging over the club. This brings our membership to 617 paid up members. The sporting sections have been very active with provincial, national and world championships taking place from the club as well as regular pool leagues.

The Season 2016/2017

Dear members and friends of the MBYBC, We have come to the end of the “silly season” in Mossel Bay and we have had a chance to look back at the season to see how it has gone. This season has had the cloud of the lease hanging over it but in spite of this we have had an amazing season. The security and member’s access worked very well this year with the introduction of a private security company to monitor the gates, members were treated to a well-controlled club. The club grounds were kept in really good order by…

Boating report February 2015

It’s with great pleasure that I can say that we have hosted the South Africa Light Tackle Boat Nationals this past week and it was a success. 103 Anglers took part and 52 boats. Our Senior Team ended 3 overall and the Veterans team second. The Lady and Junior SA’s will be held in April and we hope that this will also be an event to be remembered. On the down side like always we had some members that were not happy that the club was reserved for the National and wanted to know how much and if SALTBAA has…

Boating Report – March 2014

The biggest event on the boating front was the arrival and prolonged stay of the red tide which had many a person intrigued. It is well known that the red tide affects our filter feeders the most (i.e., oysters etc.), however, its impact on the eating patterns of fish is less well known. For that reason a number of anglers during this last month subsequently had to make the call: “Do I stay (on land) or do I go (out to sea)”. Those who stayed on land spent their time talking about how good the Mossel Bay fishing was ‘back…

Boating Season 2013

Hi all our boating members. I still have no good news for you regarding fishing in our area. I have noticed that the sardines are in the bay area but bad news for us is that they are netting them just of the point area this means that not bait fish is getting through to our fishing area. Had some discussions with the commercial guys and it looks bad there side as well. (Red fish all over and they are getting hammered). As far as the two remaining competitions are concerned you will have to help me in deciding what…

Saltic 2013

What can I say !!! – After numerous  postponements due to weather and fish stock we launched our boats at 6h00 on Saturday morning. Saltic 2013 here we come. The    weather was beautiful and we all new that the water temperature was low but the expectations was there to catch at least one nice game fish. The disappointment struck me when Jannie on the boat Henrietta was back by 10h30    and running all the way out +/- 22 km looking for something good did not happen.    We can all learn from this avid fisherman that if you don’t get fish…
