Sailing Report September 2014

On September the 14th  The official MBYBC opening cruise was held. We had 31 boats of all descriptions take part in the sail past. There was anything from sea kayaks and sailing dinghies to catamarans, keelboats and powerboats. The club was vibrant with members and visitors alike all having a lovely day out. The weather was exceptionally clear and sunny although there was hardly any wind. Sailors had quite a few problems whilst trying to sail past the Commodore who probably still has a painful right arm from holding it up for such a long time. On the 21st of…

Bart’s Bash Regatta held on Sunday 21st September 2014 @ MBYBC

On September the 21st 37 boats from the MBYBC took part in the Bartsbash, the biggest regatta ever. The Bartsbash was held to commemorate Andrew Simpson who died in a tragic yachting accident. This race had approximately 19 000 sailors taking part all over the globe. The wind and sea conditions were perfect for racing and a wonderful day was had by competitors and spectators alike. Our thanks go to Elfie Holden and everybody who assisted to make this such a big success at the MBYBC. Also a word of thanks to the Bartsbash team for their tireless efforts. For…

Sailing Report August 2014

At present there is not much to report on the sailing front. The official opening of the season cruise is to be held on the 14th of September and members are asked to encourage other members and non members to come and join in the fun. The annual sail past will be followed by the usual water balloon fight. We are thinking of having a inshore, spectator friendly “around the cans” race this year. This could perhaps add a new and exiting new facet to our yearly opening cruise. We also have Megan Robertson taking part in The Summer Youth…

Human Power Craft Report – July 2014

HPC first AGM  Our AGM will take place on 6 August 2014 @ 18:00 at the Lapa to have your say on possible changes to the rack, or not. And to decide who must represent your paddling interest at MBYBC. Currently there is only one nomination: Hanno Otto, he with his wife Sonja are owners of Trisport, professional events organisers based in Glentana. We (as the constitution required) gave 14 days notice of our section AGM, and the AGM date of 6 of August 2014 is again as constitution required 21 days before the MBYBC AGM. I, Danie Smit, will…

Sailing report for June 2014

Sailing has quietend down a lot in the past month due to the onset of winter and either too much or too little wind. The school exams also had a big influence on Sailing activity. We only had one day’s sailing in the entire month. This was on the Sunday 22nd of June. We had a near perfect wind and 3 races were sailed. Chris Naude and crew Meghann Naude managed a spectacular capsize and after righting and repairing the boat Chris managed to sail only the 3rd  race. Team Naude missed the first 2 races due to their capsize.…

Dive Section Report for May 2014

Well a few positive things have recently happened with diving. The first is we’ve actually gotten in the water all be it with mixed results but a lot of fun was has and qualifications gained. We have also taken a decision to find some space at the club to put in a compressor and some dive equipment which will be made available to the section members to use and will also be used to generate some revenue for the section by renting equipment out to non members or non section members and charging them for cylinder fills. We will also…

Sailing report for May 2014

The last few weeks has been fairly quiet on the sailing scene as far  as regattas are concerned. I can however report on our club league. Club sailing  on the 10th of May. A training session was held and Tammy and Sanmarie, Anke and Lea, Marco and Martin and Meike Prenzel were on the water and Rob Holden was coaching them.  An invigorating 15 knot north westerly was blowing. On the 11th we had  a 11 knot north westerly and we had 8 boats on the water. We had a beach start and sailed twice around the island. Also in…

Sailing report April 2014

Sailing has had quite a busy month kicking off with match racing on the 29th of March. We used 2 Hobie dragoons and divided 20 sailors up in 10 teams and two fleets. Piet Smit and his crew Marco Moolman from Sao Bras ended first in the gold fleet. Second were Tammy Holden with a double crew, Meghann Naudé and Abigail Sweeney. This was a rather special team in that Abigail is only 11 and Meghann is only 7 years old. In the silver fleet Joppie Naudé and Marc von Schutz ended 1st with Juan du Plessis and Reawon ending…

MBYBC Dive Section Report

With the conditions being so crap at the moment some of us went through to the Cape Town Dive Festival 2014 in Simons Town where they had great conditions except for the cold water. However one of us had a dry suit so it was ok.
