SAILING REPORT APRIL 2015

Once again we are approaching winter and sailing has been slowing down as the weather becomes colder. The last regatta that was attended by our sailors was the final Southern Charter Grand Slam that was held at Simonstown in the early part of April. Our sailors encountered heavy wind and rough seas but nevertheless fared quite well. For more information and photo’s of this event go to  the Southern Charter website. Club sailing has been hampered by either too much or too little wind. We will soon be taking our annual winter break until the opening of the new season…

Development and Transformation Report

Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club Transformation In our High performance group that trains on Mondays there are two disadvantage teams. On the 420 is Marco Moolman and Reawon October, and on the Feva Elandre Oosthuizen and Deodorick Loots. Marco and Reawon are sailing a very technical boat and for them to improve they need to be on the water very regular. This however means commitment as they have to walk about 45min to get to sailing and back if transport could not be organised. This unfortunately means that there are many lost opportunities for training. Deodorick has some water…

Boating report February 2015

It’s with great pleasure that I can say that we have hosted the South Africa Light Tackle Boat Nationals this past week and it was a success. 103 Anglers took part and 52 boats. Our Senior Team ended 3 overall and the Veterans team second. The Lady and Junior SA’s will be held in April and we hope that this will also be an event to be remembered. On the down side like always we had some members that were not happy that the club was reserved for the National and wanted to know how much and if SALTBAA has…

Mooring report December2014/January2015

December was the “perfect storm”  Passenger liners During the busiest part of the season we had hundreds of passengers disembarking on the moorings. Air Births We find that more and more Mooring Right Owners are using Air births. This has the effect that we have less births available for rentals. Even if the owner is not using his birth, we cannot place a rental on the birth as the Air birth is there. Dirt Bins Even though we have placed a notice to the effect, people are still throwing bait boxes and pieces of fish in the dustbin. This is…

SAILING REPORT NOVEMBER 2014

The sailing section has had two club league sailing weekends in November. Wind conditions are slowly settling into the normal pattern for this time of year. Steady easterly winds bode well for this summer holiday season. We look forward to long lazy summer days spent sailing and socializing at the club. There have been no regattas in the past month but we are sending a team of sailors and their boats to the 2nd regatta in the Southern Charter Grand Slam series that is being held at the Theewaterskloof Sports Klub on the 6th and 7th of  December. At this…

Sailing Report October 2014

The sailing season started off with a huge regatta that was held at the MBYBC during the weekend of the 4th to the 6th of October. Weather conditions were excellent for sailing and sailors were severely tested on day one when they experienced fairly strong wind made worse by rough seas and big swells. Day two was better all round with day three seeing sailing cancelled due to a lack of wind. The regatta was part of the Southern Charter, four event grand slam and was considered a huge success by all concerned. The next venue is Theewaterskloof on 6th…

Sailing Report September 2014

On September the 14th  The official MBYBC opening cruise was held. We had 31 boats of all descriptions take part in the sail past. There was anything from sea kayaks and sailing dinghies to catamarans, keelboats and powerboats. The club was vibrant with members and visitors alike all having a lovely day out. The weather was exceptionally clear and sunny although there was hardly any wind. Sailors had quite a few problems whilst trying to sail past the Commodore who probably still has a painful right arm from holding it up for such a long time. On the 21st of…
